early-production Bertoia Diamond Chair
SOLD - Eames Elephant available to order new from Vitra - inquire
Early, pre-Italian production, hand-made Bertoia diamond chairs. The assertion that they are pre-production is based on the type of fasteners used to attach the chair to the base (ordinary steel with standard nuts) and that the base pieces are not "perfect", i.e. one stub is longer than the other. Also, the interview with Don Petit in (bertoia book) identifies the rails used as very early. Still fully researching the provenance but they were owned by a collector who lived in Pennsylvania in the 1950's. They were in terrible condition when we received them and thus have been fully restored with semi-gloss white powder coating (per knoll recommendations) and semi-gloss black for the base. Some wires were re-welded where they had broken loose and one small section of wire was replaced on one chair.
